Fiona is a Legal Director in our Private Client team, based in Edinburgh.
Fiona undertakes a wide variety of private client work, providing advice to individuals and their families on all aspects of estate planning. This includes practical, tailored guidance on tax-efficient Wills, the administration of complex estates, the creation and management of trusts, Powers of Attorney, and matters arising under the Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act.
She also has a strong interest in charity law and is a member of MFMac's Third Sector team, with particular expertise in advising charitable trusts and establishing new charities with the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR).
Fiona holds the STEP Charity Trustee Qualification, awarded by the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners (STEP)—a globally recognised body for professionals in inheritance and succession planning. She is also a Notary Public and has tutored on the Revenue Law course at the University of Edinburgh, contributing to the academic development of future legal professionals.

The Charities (Regulation and Administration) (Scotland) Act 2023 has introduced new rules on the automatic disqualification of individuals from acting in Scottish charities, which will apply from 31 August 2025.
As part of new measures being introduced under the Charities (Regulation and Administration) (Scotland) Act 2023, OSCR has advised that from 30 June 2025, there will be a new legal requirement for all registered charities to provide details of their charity trustees.
The Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 defines a charity trustee as someone who has general control and management of a charity and can therefore include directors, committee members, management board and trustees.
