Lauren is an Associate in our Commercial team.
Lauren McLeod regularly advises a diverse range of clients across the technology, healthcare and life sciences sectors, with a particular interest in the cosmetics and non-surgical aesthetics markets.
Her practice covers data protection, intellectual property, and a broad spectrum of commercial contracts including software licensing, collaboration agreements and supply of goods and services.
She has first-hand knowledge of compliance, risk management and practical implementation of data protection frameworks and has extensive experience advising on the drafting and negotiation of commercial agreements, protecting and enforcing intellectual property rights and ensuring compliance with data protection obligations.
Lauren’s work frequently involves advising on data subject access requests, personal data breaches, marketing practices and data processing and sharing arrangements. She also supports clients in structuring IP strategies, negotiating licences and assignments and putting in place robust contractual protections for complex commercial relationships.
The UK’s cosmetic procedures sector operates under a fragmented and often inadequate regulatory regime. While surgical interventions are subject to healthcare regulation, many non-surgical aesthetic procedures – such as Botox, dermal fillers, and high-risk treatments like Brazilian Butt Lifts (BBLs) – remain largely outside statutory oversight.
With the healthcare industry relying heavily on data for medical research and surveillance studies, it is critically important that sponsors, study sites and CROs know when data falls within the remit of 'personal data', which brings with it additional compliance requirements.
The DUAA significantly increases maximum fines for PECR breaches and expands ICO powers, making compliance with cookie and direct marketing rules more critical than ever.
