Injury Awareness Week 2026

Injury Awareness Week is an annual campaign, led by the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL), dedicated to highlighting the impact that negligent, avoidable injuries can have on individuals and their loved ones, while also promoting safer practices generally. This year, Injury Awareness Week runs from 22 June to 26 June and will focus on the "ripple effect" injuries have on those supporting the injured person.

Who are the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers?

APIL is an organisation representing specialist personal injury lawyers across the UK. APIL’s core aim is to ensure that injured people have a clear and effective route to justice. APIL also encourages better standards of safety and responsibility from employers, public bodies and insurers. APIL plays a key role in influencing policy, raising public awareness and campaigning for legal frameworks that protect individuals who have suffered injuries caused by someone else's negligence.

What is Injury Awareness Week?

Injury Awareness Week focuses on the consequences of avoidable accidents and injuries, both for individuals and for their loved ones. The key message of Injury Awareness Week is that injuries are not just unfortunate accidents but are often the result of poor practices and procedures from employers or public bodies, or a lack of proper care. APIL's aim is that by raising awareness, individuals affected will have better access to support and that safety is prioritised.

APIL has launched the Severe Injury Help Hub, designed to help those impacted by an injury. This includes family members and friends who provide essential support in the aftermath of an injury. The Hub provides an online directory of resources to help with issues such as paying the mortgage, accessing bank accounts, finding support and finding an experienced, accredited lawyer.

APIL reports that as little as 20% of individuals who sustained an injury that wasn't their fault approached a lawyer to seek compensation. They report that over 430,000 people in the UK suffered an injury, based upon data received from the DWP, which means that there is a huge number of people not pursuing claims when they are entitled to do so. If more individuals felt supported to seek compensation and understood their rights, it is more likely that change would be effected to improve safety practices and reduce the risk of future injuries.
