Euan has been advising on intellectual property matters and commercial contracts throughout his career.
He regularly advises on all areas of law relating to intellectual property, technology and media – digital and non-digital, contentious and non-contentious. On a daily basis, Euan is involved with drafting, negotiating and advising on commercial contracts from sale to purchase, distribution to retail and sponsorship to endorsement. In addition, he is focused on helping businesses identify, protect, commercialise and drive value from their intellectual property, including by complex licensing structures.
Euan tutors on Intellectual Property and Commercial Contracts at the University of Strathclyde Law School. He is the Chair of the Glasgow Short Film Festival. He is also a Director of ADVOC Europe and an ambassador for the Glasgow School of Art Development Trust.
Euan is ranked for Intellectual Property in the 2025 edition of Chambers UK Guide to the Legal Profession. He is also listed in the WTR (World Trademark Review) 1000 and is described by clients as "fantastic for licensing, contracts and pre-litigation negotiation" and "an extremely safe pair of hands".
In Iconix v Dream Pairs, the UK Supreme Court confirmed that post-sale confusion is a valid consideration in trade mark infringement. While the appeal was allowed on procedural grounds, the Court affirmed that confusion arising after purchase - such as when products are seen in public - can still damage a brand’s guarantee of origin.
The UK–India trade deal has been billed as a landmark moment for Scottish exporters - and for whisky, it opens the door to a market with huge commercial promise. Tariffs, long one of the biggest obstacles to growth in India, are set to fall dramatically. For Scotch whisky, that means a 150% duty will be halved, then gradually reduced to 40% over the next decade.
